A troubleshooting suggestion that worked here - get your
hands on a mouse of different type. (That is, if your
mouse has a ps2 connector (round, plugs in just above the
keyboard) find an old serial mouse (trapezoidal 9 pin
connector), or vice versa.) Shut down, swap mice. Reboot.
Does the problem go away? If so, the port (connection) you
were using is bad. If the system is still under warranty,
get it repaired / replaced. If not, keep using the
alternate mouse!
