How to change BIOS processor cache from write-through to write-back?

I have a very bad erratic cursor problem that is taking away my use of this
computer. The Microsoft Knowledge Base suggests it could be caused by the
BIOS processor cache being set to write-through instead of write-back.
Looking in the BIOS setup of my Asus P2b(BX chipset) I can only see how to
enable or disable the caches. I'm wondering if there might be a way in
Windows 2000 to do this. If anyone knows please tell me...this problem is
driving me nuts.

Have you checked for something simpler like a bad or dirty
mouse, or reinstalling your video and/or mouse driver?

I clean the mouse once a week. I've reinstalled mouse drivers with the
latest, reinstalled video driver. Checked for viruses with the latest
defiinitions, run Spy Bot, run HBO Demon. I'm sure there's more I don't
know about yet, but right now I'm trying to find out about changing the BIOS
processor cache, that makes more logical sense by the way the problem comes
and goes depending on which program or web site I'm using. An intensive
java usage web site always provokes the problem, avoiding it and certain
other things...and the problem seems to stay at bay. Yesterday it would
come on within a minute after a reboot when I was reinstalling
programs(java, etc...). I rebooted at least 20 times last night and each
time it would show up within 1-5 minutes regardless of what I was doing.
Just using Outlook Express was enough to provoke it it seemed. Today it
hasn't come on for hours but if I go to this one web site it will
immediately appear.

It's a very frustrating problem. I'll take one of your suggestions and try
changing mice...who knows?

Thanks, John

A troubleshooting suggestion that worked here - get your
hands on a mouse of different type. (That is, if your
mouse has a ps2 connector (round, plugs in just above the
keyboard) find an old serial mouse (trapezoidal 9 pin
connector), or vice versa.) Shut down, swap mice. Reboot.
Does the problem go away? If so, the port (connection) you
were using is bad. If the system is still under warranty,
get it repaired / replaced. If not, keep using the
alternate mouse!
