Change the Author Name in Comments

How/where do I change the name that appears when I insert a comment? Is it
the name of the person registered to Office? If so, how do I change it? Can
I make it the name of the user that is logged on to the computer? I found
my name in the Registry in two places but I didn't want to change it there.

Also, can I change the font too?

Dan

I was actually looking for an answer to this question earlier this
morning. I wan't to completely remove the default comment text
altogether. I found out that microsoft's help says that isn't
possible.

But to just change your name in the comments box, goto Tools -> Options
-> General Tab and change it in the "User name" field.

Just remember that this is the name that microsoft uses to tag your
document properties and make notes when files are merged.

With Excel97 you can delete the name, and add any text you want in the
comment field. If newer versions have eliminated that feature,
Microsoft must have had a better ::cough:: idea. Also, to Answer Dan's
question about changing font size, just right click in the comment
area and chose Edit Comment... at least that's the way it's done with
the older version.

Zilbandy,
I was looking for a solution where the default "name" would not appear
at all. You're right that the name can be deleted - that hasn't
changed in the newer versions.

Although you can change the user name (Tools>Options>General and change the
User Name field, but you cannot change any existing comments, they will
retain the name in place when created.

The name comes from Tools>Options>General>User Name.

For changing the default font size only see Debra Dalgleish's site

http://www.contextures.on.ca/xlcomments02.html#Default

Note: you can change font and size while editing a comment.

You can delete the user name permanently from Tools>Options>General>User Name
but this will still leave the colon(

If you want a blank comment you can use VBA code to achieve that.

See Debra Dalgleish's site
