CF considered as fixed drive

Hello,
I'm new on this forum, and only a beginner in WinXPE.
I know it's a subject a lot of message deals with, but I've not found a
valid solution. My problem is:

I need to use multiple partition on CF with Windows XPE. The first partition
is EWF protected while the second is write enable access, to stock my data.
How can I do this?

One solution could be to force the compact flash to be considered as a fixed
drive. Are they utilities to do this?

The second solution could be to force Windows to not read the type of
memory. Is there a component to do this?

Please, help me... I've spend a lot of time for nothing. I'm sure there is a
simple solution to this current problem.

Jérôme

Jerome,

Since you want to partition the card and create a few partitions, you need the CF to be marked as fixed.
You should only do that with an utility provided by the CF manufacturer only. Contact the one you have purchased the CF from and
they should be able to send you an utility (sometimes there is a requirement to sing an NDA).

I am not sure I understand what you proposed as the the second solution.

Some CF cards can be ordered already configured to look like a
"non-removable" device. That feature is a character in the model number.
"Silicon Systems" and "SimpleTech" can be ordered this way. I know others
can be also. Do some web searches and look for ordering information to see
if they can be ordered already configured this way. If you use a utility
from a vendor, then it may become invalid if the CF controller is changed.

Good Luck

Thanks for your reply.

My second proposition consist of use a compact flash driver under windows
xpe that automatically consider a compact flash as a fixed drive.
I see this kind of driver for Hitachi CF (on www.xpefiles.com), but I'm not
able to adapt this driver for a different brand of CF.

Jerome,

You will have to do some tweaking around the INF files.

Here is the thread on how you do this:
