Recently certain web sites (like yahoo and Thrifty Car Rental) appear HUGE on
my screen. The text is so big that I can only read about the top 1/8 of the
page on my screen. I am running at 1280x1024 and it looks like the sites are
800x600 or worse. Some only seems to have distorted fonts in certain areas.
If I pull the same sites up on my laptop they are fine, so I know it is my
desktop having the problem. It is running IE 6 SP2. I am assuming it is an
IE issue and not a video issue since the problem isn't occuring in any other
apps. Any thoughts on what might fix this?

Hi,
First check:
Control Panel> Accessibility Options> Display. Make sure that High Contrast
is not checked. Also click on Settings and uncheck Use Shortcut. That will
disable the Alt+Shift+Print Screen shortcut to High Contrast.

Then, Internet Options> General> Accessibility. For most users, nothing
should be checked.

Don's advice is the place to start but don't give up on the possibility of
video drivers or directx problems, IE gets closer to the graphics routines
than one might expect for a browser and I have seen driver problems cause
similar, albeit rarely.

I suppose it is also possible that you have a fonts problem, I may not have
time to get back this weekend but it will help others if you can mention
some "Event" that took place just before this started happening, such as
install software, remove software, system crash, spyware removal etc.

OK, I tried Don's suggestions but it didn't help. Charlie, you asked about
certain events. It began when I got a new desktop and a new 19" flat panel
around the same time last month. I got the new desktop first. I am not 100%
sure if the problem started before I loaded the drivers for the new monitor
or if it was started with the new system. I wasn't using my desktop much, so
it may have been this way from the beginning. I just can't figure it out
since it is only happening in IE on some sites. Should I reload the drivers
for the video and display?
