Don's advice is the place to start but don't give up on the possibility of
video drivers or directx problems, IE gets closer to the graphics routines
than one might expect for a browser and I have seen driver problems cause
similar, albeit rarely.
I suppose it is also possible that you have a fonts problem, I may not have
time to get back this weekend but it will help others if you can mention
some "Event" that took place just before this started happening, such as
install software, remove software, system crash, spyware removal etc.
