Certain Keys Won't Work

Hoping someone has a solution for me....

I am using Windows 2000 on a Dell Latitude laptop.
Periodically, certain keys - specifically the backspace,
enter and space keys - won't work. Either all work or none
work, leading me to believe it's not just an issue with
the hardware, but rather software.

Anyone have any idea what could be causing this?
