I am wanting to insert a Watermark into a single page document. The picture
I am using is a logo that I have on my hard drive and have no problem
inserting it into the document. My problem is that I want it to be centered
on the page, and it keeps going to the top left of the document. I have
inserted it into the doc and the header both but can not get the logo to
center on the page.

When you insert the picture, Word makes it "in-line with text" -- that is,
it behaves like a single large character. Click once on the picture, go to
the Picture toolbar that appears, click the Text Wrapping button (silhouette
of a dog on a background), and select any of the other items on the
dropdown. For a watermark, Behind Text is probably the right choice. You can
also use the buttons at the left end of the toolbar to reduce the contrast
and increase the brightness of the picture, so it doesn't obscure text that
passes in front of it.

Thanks for the help Jay, I was able to use your information to get the logo
in the doc and for it to do what I needed. I was going to the
Format/Background/Printed Watermark window and not getting anywhere. I was
sure that I learned in a class that I took once that you could center a
watermark doing this, but I sure don't remember how.
Thanks again for you help in getting this done.

Hi Jerry,

That should work, too. When you choose Picture in the Watermark dialog, it
does center the picture on the page -- at least, it does for me (Word
2003) -- but it does it just by automating the steps I described. In fact,
it doesn't give me any choice to put it anywhere except centered.

The picture is anchored in the header, so you have to open the header pane
to be able to select it; then you can move it, resize it, change its
contrast, etc.

Jay,
I tried doing the Format/Background/Printed Watermark route again only on a
new document. It worked just fine, must be something up with the doc I'm
using. I think it was created using a template or a wizard. Now I know I'm
not losing my mind. And thanks to you, I know how to work around it, should
this ever happen again.
Thanks
Jerry
