cendyne cd-rw doesn't recognize blank media

I have a cendyne 48x16x48 CD-RW. It used to be working fine before, but
recently I am unable to burn any CDs on it. The burning program complains
that "Insert a blank CD". I am pretty sure I have a blank CD inserted.
However, I am able to use the drive to read a CD/play audio CDs. What could
be wrong?
