I am unable to get the "background" properties set in either tables or
cells.

I can do it in "page layout," but not the individual cells or talbles.

It reamins grayed out.

Any suggestions - is there something else I need to swith?

Do you know where I could get some materials on studying CSS - It look like
this project could grow to quite a substantial site - and utimately it may
be (???) better to go with CSS ? I have Staneck and Holdens book, but do
believe I need some more information.
