good morning;

excel 2003, sp3 running on xp pro 2002, sp2.

lately, when i attempt to use the arrow keys to move the selected cell the
entire screen scrolls instead. i.e. if cell k20 is selected and is at the
top left of the display, pressing the down arrow key moves the top of the
display to k21; the selected cell remains k20. the tab key still moves the
cell selection, not the window. and selecting with the mouse continues to
work. hope that's clear.

excel has just started this behavior since an automatic update download
pushed out by our it guys. i have checked the tools>options settings and
nothing appears to have been changed. can't find anything on 'excel
application errors' doing a search from the newsgroup window.

how can i fix this? thanks.

I think your scroll lock is on? Press the ScrLk key on your keyboard, and
see what happens. What bothers me is that you use the word lately. Does
this happen, even after switching off overnight, and switching on again in
the morning? Could be that this key is then stuck.

I am also embarrassed that I didn't think of this ... I must have hit the
Scroll Lock button by mistake ... sure enough, hitting it again fixed my
problem (and frustration!). Thank you!!!
