cell format changed when data entered

OK I've got another issue with data entry that I haven't seen before.
When I enter data into a cell that cell inherits the format of a cell
several rows above it (background color, horizontal center and set
font to bold.) Web searching using various descriptions of this
problem have not yielded any results. Any idea?

hi,
just a guess but try this....
on the menu bar.....
Tools>options>edit tab>uncheck Extend list formats and formulas
