CDRW started acting up -- sporadically wouldn't read or write or recognize
disks. Right-click "send-to" would only work on a new, clean disk, if it
worked at all. Many problems, so I did the obvious, and replaced the drive.
Now it works just fine as far as recognizing disks and writing to them, and
the right-click send-to function is doing what it used to, so I can continue
writing to the disks.
However...it won't read disks. Not burned disks, not commercial disks. They
show up as the right type of disk (CD, CDRW, CDR), and if I check the
properties of a disk, it will tell me how much space is used. But it will
not display what's on the disk. Even after it finishes writing to the disk.
The obvious thing would be to try another drive, but I don't have any in
stock at the moment. Next week when a new batch comes in, I can try that,
but in the meanwhile, does anyone have any software-related ideas as to what
might be wrong?
The other odd thing, and I don't know if this is at all related, but
"sharing' doesn't appear on this drive either. The regular CD drive can be
shared, though, and by the way, it reads disks just fine.
