My system as supplied by Gateway is
PERF500LS Pentium 3 with 20Gb Disk.
The memory was 128 Mb, has been increased to 256 Mb.
Have Partitioned Drive 'C' (Disk 1, 20 Gb)
to use Windows 98 in the first partition (5.86 Gb),
and Windows Xp in the second partition (5.96 Gb).
Have added a second drive 'D' (Disk 2).
As supplied, the system also included DVD and CD-RW,
these were identified on boot-up as DVD 'V'
and the CD-RW as 'W'.
This arrangement worked fine for a while
using the CD-RW with Easy CD Creator 5(Platinum).
But after uninstalling and reinstalling ECDC,
the CD-RW is not now detected on Boot-up.
After trying unsuccessfully to sort this have Formatted
the partition
and reinstalled Xp and Easy CD Creator,
but still the CD-RW 'W' is not detected.
Have physically removed the DVD and CD-RW, and checked the
cables
but the cabling appears to be OK.
Have tried various BIOS Set-Up Utility settings:
IDE Controller 'Both' etc, but during Boot I always get:
Secondary IDE Slave 'None'
Attempts to reload ECDC after Clean Boot,
as recommended by Roxio, gives:
"No supported drives found.
Do you wish to continue the installation of DirectCD 5"
Have applied Microsoft knowledge base article 320553
removed Upperfilters and Lowerfilters from register:
No effect.
Everything else seems to be working OK.
Can anyone please suggest something I haven't tried:
How I can get the CD-RW Philips 4x4x24 to be detected
during boot-up and placed as CDRW Drive 'W'
bemused but still hopeful, Ron Eitel
