you mention kazaa - could be a virus?

maybe backed up data (mp3's, videos, documents, programs etc) has a virus in
it and it never gets deleted.

I recently had a problem with my CD-RW/DVD drives and Windows XP. The
problem began when the person who owned the computer before me removed
EasyCD Creator from the computer but forgot to remove the associated
drivers. He also forgot to fix the registry. Though the drivers being
present wouldn't cause a tremendous problem, the values in the registry
pointing to the drivers is where the problems began.

Windows strangely enough wouldn't recognize my drive. The computer would
boot from a bootable CD but unfortunately, that was all the drive was good
for. Anyways to make a long story short, this is what I did to fix the
problem:

Go to the Regedit tool, then go to the following folder:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SYSTEM/CurrentControlSet/Control/Class/{4D36E965-E325-11C
E-BFC1-08002BE10318}
Once there, right-click on and delete the "UpperFilters" and "LowerFitlers"
values.

Try doing this and tell me if that helps you.

Sincerely,

Eric Scofield
