cdrw drive

my atapi cdrw drive will show up after i reboot and then
if i reboot again it wil not show up. As if at one moment
it is there and then the next it's not there at all.
When windows does see it a driver is assigned by winxp
and I can see it in device manager with no exclamation
point. Yet i reboot and then nothing is there. I believe
it may be a bad cdrw drive. Do you have any ideas???
