My father in law has an compaq presario 5000 that was
originally running Windows ME, He upgraded 3 weeks ago to
XP Professional. The computer was working fine for 3
weeks, then yesterday he booted up to find out he had no
cdrom drives. They appear in device manager with corrupt
drivers. He didn't install any software or update any
hardware. I had a similar experience with Windows ME and
thought that it might somehow be related. Reloading the
drivers has no effect. One of the drives is an internal
cdrom and the other is a USB CDRW drive. Any ideas?
