While I was still a newbie, I installed a cdrom on my
fathers computer, unaware of the IDE slave and master set
up. Meaning, HD-master IDE 1, CDROM-master IDE2, CDR-
slave IDE2. I have just reinstalled XP Home and forgot
to change that setup so he can burn on-the-fly. Now that
XP is installed, I tried to change the IDE setup, but
upon booting it detects the drives but is unable to
install them, they flicker on and off installed then
unable to install. I tried removing them and boooting,
but didn't fix. Do I have to remove them from the device
manager, turn off, switch cables and then boot from cd to
fix the problem? Any help would be appreciated.

Hello,

I would remove them from the computer through the device
manager, then go into your BIOS and remove them from
there also. Then shut off the computer, make the
neccesary changes, then reboot. Before Windows start, go
into your BIOS and make sure that the motherboard sees
everything in the correct position that you put them in.
It that is correct, hopefully Windows will see them in
the right order.
