Since some days, I find it impossible to read CDRom's or floppy discs (all 3
peripherals connected to the IDE controllers, since a long time without
problem).
When I look at the Device manager, it tells me that the devices are working
properly. I can also find the identification of the CD volume in the reader
thropugh the device manager. But nor the CD-rom's nor the floppies can be
read. The event manager signals regularly the error ID nr 116 telling that
the drive could not identify the media.
But I'm sure the hardware is working properly because musical CDRom can be
listened through Windows Media Player and I could also backup files through
Nero on the CDRom writer.
It's interesting to notice that these 3 devices have the same basic driver
identification from Microsoft namely the version 5.0.2183.1 from 14/11/99, .
I reloaded and reinstalled the service pack 4 but this didn't bring any help.
So I have no more ideas about what to do.
Can anyone provide me a creative suggestion?
Thank you beforehand.
Jacques
