CDROM not useable in WinXP

Problem: WinXP will not enable the CDROM drive.

XP recognizes the CDROM, identifies by brand and model in
device manager but flags it with the yellow "!" symbol.

I have tried 4 different CDROM drives with the same
result. 1. CDROM. 2. CDROM-RW. 3. DVD-ROM. 4. DVD-RW

All different brands and models. They are listed in
device manager but will not enable and/or show in
MyComputer or Explorer.

All of these are recognized by the BIOS and can be used
to boot to the CDROM before WinXP starts.

All used to work but just quit.

Help!

Larry

You have the common upper/lower filter problem for the CD/DVD drives.
Search the newsgroup for the upper/lower filter problem and you should find
a link to a registry patch which should fix this.

Yves,

I have only been able to search the most recent 400 emails in the group, and
i can't find anything on upper/lower filter. Can you point me to a
resource? My problem is described in my posting later 6/28.
