I have a CyberDrive CB511 D Combo , CD/RW DVD drive , and I use a single
40G harddrive with Windows XP Home Edition .
Both drives are on seperate cables .
Now I know it is best to leave the Western Digital harddrive jumperless or
the jumper in the neutral position . I will leave it jumperless for now .
The CyberDrive website does not suggest any other setting than to have
the jumper on the CB511D Combo in the Master position for a single drive .
Because the CD drive only registers in Pio mode in the Device manager and
because the CD drive registers as in the correct DMA mode when I leave the
jumper off , would there be a big risk if I attempt to leave the jumper off
the CD drive and leave Windows to save me if something seems like it will
cause damage ?
I remember too that the harddrive makes a clicking sound very likely
because I live in an old house which needs an electricity upgrade , but the
Harddrive is repaired by the Western Digital WNDLG Diagnostic Tool .

I normally set the CD/DVD drives to Master setting. It does not hurt and
the drive will always be ready whenever you want to add a drive.

As for your power, consider in getting a UPS (uninterruptible power supply)
so as the help filter your power.

To be sure, try setting both as Cable Select.

The inclusion of a UPS is a good suggestion: a nice safety and security
measure.
