I have a disk. My friend has an HP computer that is
acting up (and I am fed up).
What I want to do is reformat the HD, kill all the HP
hidden stuff and install a new version of Windows.
However, when I tried to install a New Windows (w/o
reformatting) it said that my disk and his s/n (on the
side of the machine would not work (it said I had an
invalid s/n). Is that corrected when I reformat the HD
and reinstall?
I ask, since I read the other problems about needing
floppies to enter the recovery console (since there is
some sort of junk on the HD that won't let me use recovery
with the CD- it says I don't know the Admin P/w, which I
do).
Thanks.
Roy

You cant do that on these computers that use recovery discs. Thats why
sensible people dont buy Dell or HP
Never buy a machine that does not have a complete say Windows XP CD ( OEM
or Retial)

Most Dell's I have bought come with recovery partitions AND Windows XP
Installation CDs.

Also, Eric, Most sensible people do not post in newsgroups with real email
addresses - otherwise their spam numbers increase greatly.

Roy, the number on the side of his computer goes with his OEM copy of the
OS.. Not retail/upgrade.
