cdrom device problems

Hi,

After a recent windows update, something very strange has happened to my
dvd-rom drive and cdrw (both fairly venerable but both working fine upto
now) - In device manager they both show up as unknown. While this doesn't
seem to effect the cdrw, it seems to stop windows enabling dma on the dvd
drive and although it works fine reading normal cds, when I play a dvd the
sound stops after a few minutes and it gets really juddery.

Does anyone know if there's a patch/work around to fix this?

Cheers

Jamie
