says hardware is not connected on CD-ROM drive. went to
troubleshoot and said to reconnect it. i havent even
touched the cdrom drive

Switch off.
Open the case and check 3 connectors: Flat IDE at both ends, Power and
small round Sound cable.

If the motherboard is "fresh" enough then the BIOS on reboot will (re)detect
anything that was just "loose".
