CDROM and CDRW issue

I was copying a cd a few days ago from my CD-ROM to my CDRW. All of a
sudden, it stopped burning and i got a blue screen of death, so I rebooted,
and tried to burn again. The problem is now, even though both drives show up
on boot up on the IDE devie detection, and on the desktop as well in "my
computer", neither drive will work. I can click on the drives and a prompt
will come up saying "please insert a cd in the drive". The problem is, if I
reboot with a CD in the drive, the cd rom will work once im booted up and on
my desktop. BUt if i take the CD out, reboot, then put in the cd once im on
my desktop, the drive will not read the cd. If it's a music CD, i can play
it though winamp if i specify the cd's location to Winamp, but clicking on
the icon in "my computer" will not allow me to access the CD.
This is very odd...I'm considering a format and see if that fixes these
issues. ANyone have any ideas?
I am running XP pro on 512 MB PC 2100 and an 80 gig HDD at 7200RPM.

Penny, try Rt clicking MyComputer>select Properties>Hardware>Device
Manager>DVD/CDRom Drives. click on + sign.
rt click on both your drives and uninstall them. Let WinXP on restart
reinstall them. Also, go to Add/Remove Programs in
Control Panel and uninstall your CD Burner Software. Reinstall after first
procedure. Look for WinXP updates at the
Burner Software Manufacturers site. Check here and see if it applies.

| sounds to me like you may have both cd drives on the same
| ribbon cable, XP does not like that at all, try keeping
| the drives on seperate ide controllers.

WHAT??????
