My CDR will play a cd but it says no device found when
trying to record to it! OR it says to put in a disk
even when there is already one in there --yes they are
new blank cdr's.

....and recording is enabled?

Right-click the drive letter, click PROPERTIES|RECORD tab

Read my other post from today. Do you have an HP? This is
a 794C-b; and it's CD/DVD drive has issues. The hardware
itself is WRITEPROTECTED!
Your description sound somewhat similar; I forgot to add
some of the items in your post to mine!
The set-up for my drive is different. It asks what action
I want for ea. type of task, or prompt each time...
I hope you fix it.

PS I forgot something. Is the device enabled? Is it
working properly? Right Click on MY Computer/system
properties/hardware/device manager. I hope this helps.
