cd files are normally marked as Read only, as CDRW doesn't alter the file per
se, but deletes the pointer to the file and saves a new version.

CD files ARE read-only. Physically, spots are BURNED into the recording
medium and cannot be unburned.

You can write another copy of the file on a CD-RW, but you can't rewrite the
file (or a record within it).

Ordinarily: you can't. CDs are a read only menium and the specification
calls for all files to be marked as read only. I know that sometimes this
is a bloody nuisance if you use CDs for archiving when you copy large
numbers of files back.

The only way to keep the files marked read/write is to burn the CD using a
packet writing utility such as InCD or Drag-to-Disk. However, you should be
aware that packet written CDs are notoriously unreliable and data loss is a
frequent problem. If you really want to use packet writing then use DVD+RW
(*not* DVD-RW) media which contains technology that vastly improves the
reliability. Better still, if your drive supports the media, is to use
DVD-RAM, though write speeds are nothing to write home about.
