cd writer does not work

Hello. I have a problem with my cd writer. It is just an atapi 52x max cd writer. It came with the pc i bought early in 2003. The drive itself works fine, with it reading from cd's no problem. The problem comes when i try to burn a cd(data videocd music etc). it does not matter which software i use, roxio nero or winxp, it will just not burn

It will just come up with an error telling me that the media is invalid, or something to that effect. I have tried my blank cd's on other pcs and they burn fine, so it cannot be that. i have lowered the burn speed and still nothing.

Being as the drive still reads any cd i put in it, i would assume that it will just be a software problem, not hardware(hopefully).
