I just started using Movie Maker. I am trying to create a
CD with titles, pictures and audio in the background.
I save to a recordable CD and it gives me a WMV file. The
CD plays fine on the computer where I created this
project with media player (version 9). However, when I
play the CD on my laptop or other computer, media player
recognizes the file, there a one quick error message
about downloading and then it plays the file with no
audio or
video. These other computers have media player versions 7
and 8. In the About Help my movie maker shows version 5.1
and also version 2.0.3312.0.

I checked out Papa John's site but could not find answer
to my problem. The site mentions saving to DV-AVI format
but when I try to save I do not see any format options.
The file defaults to WMV. Please Help!

Movie Maker 2's WMV utility saves movies with the codec windows media 9.0.
Theres two options:
1.)
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/win...ad/default.asp and
install the media 9 codecs on the other computers or

2.) http://www.microsoft.com/windows/win...7/encoder.aspx

and save your movies as the highest quality WMV from MM2, and then use this
program to convert to media 8 codec. Please note, everytime you convert a
file, there is some quality loss, so if you have the software and ambition,
you can produce as a DV-AVI and then use another program to decompress this
to a raw AVI and then use the encoder to convert the new AVI to media 8 or
7. If you go this route, I recomend dropping the WMV file, and save the AVI
as an MPG. oNew of my favorite freeware apps for this is located at
http://www.mnsi.net/~jschlic1 (Called avi2vcd [ala mpeg 1]

Also: your WMV CD will not play back in most stand alone component DVD/VCD
players, although some might.

It sounds like these other machines don't have the Windows Media v9 codecs.
If they're connected to the Internet then the codec should download
automatically but it sounds like that it not happening correctly. You can
install them manually if you wish on those other machinces, here's the link

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...DisplayLang=en

Hope this helps.

Thank you all. Downloading media 9 codecs solved the
problem.
