I have a SuperMicro mobo. My boot and only drive is SATA.

I want to reinstall Windoze. My trouble is that if I leave my drive
connected, it won't boot from CD.

I have the first device set to boot from CD. The other 3 are set to
disable.

If I open the computer and unplug the drives SATA cable, I can get it
to boot from CD. The drive is an older drive and doesn't have a hot
swappable power supply connector.

Usually you connect the CD and HDD, make sure they are recognized and
enabled in BIOS, go to the Bios BOOT Menu, and set the boot order to CD -
(Floppy) - HDD. If that does not work you may have a problem with the HDD,
the controller, or your SATA drivers (which should be loaded by F6 at first
install screen).
Is your Bios configuration correct?
