CD-RW Problem since SP1

Here is my general problem, ever since I installed the SP1
that I downloaded from the Microsoft site, my CD-RW
software that comes with XP has gone all buggy.

The OS recognizes the CD-RW as the Sony one I got in, but
when, after compiling a list of files to write, I try to
write them, the app sez that there is NO BLANK CD in the
drive.

I am able to write to all other CD-Recoding applications
without a problem, but I do like the little writing
software that comes with XP, it is handy when needed.

Anyone have a solution for this appart from uninstalling
the SP1 or reinstalling XP without SP1?
