CD-RW Missing/Corrupted Driver

I am getting an error 39 (driver corrupted or missing) in
the Device Manager related to the CD-RW (Sony CRX100E)
and I have tried everything to "fix" it. I am running
Windows XP and the Plug&Play recognizes the device but it
does not show as a device when listing My Computer - and
therefore it is not accessible. I have tried uninstalling
and reinstalling the driver (same error), rolling back
the driver (there is no previous version), updating the
driver (cannot find a later version and hence does not
replace). IBM suggested I reinstall XP but my CR-RW drive
does not work!!!!
Any help is appreciated.

True, but the question is still valid.
