CD-RW light flashes/pc crashes

I just got a new pc less than a week ago. Yesterday the
light on the CD-RW drive started flashing. There was no
disc in it. It would not stop flashing and it wouldn't
open. I tried restarting the computer, but it
said, "Windows is shutting down." And 15 minutes later,
the light was still flashing, and it still said it was
shutting down. I didn't know what else to do, so I
unplugged it from the wall. Today, I restarted and the
same thing happened. I tried going to my computer and
clicking on the disc drive to see what was happening. It
stopped responding. It wouldn't let me do anything. I
finally got it to restart again.
Anyone know what may be causing the light to blink and
kill the computer?

Also, I'm trying to install my scanner on the new
computer. I've downloaded the driver twice. Everytime I
try to use the scanner, it tells me to move the
TWAIN_32.dll file to my WINDOWS folder. It's already
there. I don't know what else to do but go buy a new
scanner.

Thanks.

Open up your computer and check for tight cable connections on the back of
the CD-RW drive and down onto the motherboard. If this is an intermittent
fault might be a bit tricky to locate but always check connections first.
The next option would be to remove the IDE channel that the CD-RW drive is
on from within the Device Manager and restarting to see if the IDE is
corrupt.

Dont know what to suggest about the scanner but might be worth installing
the drivers and software that came on the CD instead of downloaded ones to
see if that helps
