My computer will not recognize my cd rw drive---it stopped recognizing it
for no apparent reason and does not show the drive on "my computer"---no
changes have been made to computer

What happens when you place a disk in the drive?

I had that happen with a my DVD-RW drive once. Try
unplugging it, then plugging it back in and booting up the
computer. You can also check the bios and make sure the
hardware detection is on "auto".

Unplug-replug worked for me.
