Anyone........ My CD-RW will play MP3s, install software from a CD, play
commercial audio CDs; however, when I put a blank CD-R into the drive, I
can't "drag and drop" files onto it. With the blank CD-R installed in the
drive, Windows Explorer says the drive is "not accessible." My system is a
Dell with Windows XP SP-2.

First, is this normal? If not, what can I do to get it right. I believe it
used to work fine with drag&drop. Please comment, thanks.

using windows explorer check the properties of the drive and ensure the
enable cd burning is enabled, under the recording tab.

This answer wasn't much help to anyone. Of course it's enabled, and it has
been working for a long time under SP2. I have the same issue with an LG DVD
Rewriter I've been using for over a year with no problems. Insalled SP3 and
wham! Now the thing won't work! Thanks Microsoft!

Do you have the software package for the burner? I suspect that if you
can reinstall the software, it'll drag and drop again.

Also:

CD repair for XP:
http://aumha.org/downloads/cdgone.zip

Also try the following. You should back up the registry before making
changes:

Click Start, Run, type Regedit, click OK.
Locate this Registry Key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class
Key Name: {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
Value Data: [Delete All Value Data from UpperFilters and LowerFilters]
Note: Do not delete the Key or the Multi-String Values. Delete only the
data values.
Exit Registry and Reboot

Thanks, Joe. Will try the software re-installation first.
