A new, clean install of Windows 2000 Professional, the OS
sees the drive, but when attempting to use it get the
above command.

No other software, other than OS is installed.

Drive set to Master or CS same results. IDE1, by itself.

If BIOS is set to boot from CD, it works and boots from CD.

Any help would be appreciated.

What do you mean by "attempt to use it?" What does it do when you insert a
CD? Are you trying to save to the CD-RW drive as if it were a hard disk? Etc.

I have that problem with all removable drives, my floppy, my DVD/CD-ROM and
CD-RW drives. It happened when I installed Norton 2004 Antivirus program.

When I uninstalled Norton 2004 AV, the problem was fixed. Norton is aware of
the problem, but have not offered any fix yet.
