This often happens and the disc wont eject either by pressing the button or
from the My Computer eject instruction. The only way I can free the disc is
to switch off and press the eject button before windows starts up. ANyone
know what's going on?

Time to consider changing the CD RW drive. It sound like the drive is
having hardware problems. If all the connecting cables are correctly
"seated" in their corresponding plugs, the the electronics on the drive are
begining to "fail". Check to see if the unit is under warranty?

Try re-installing your packet writing software. The drive
won't open unless the burning software has properly set the
condition of the CD. If that doesn't work, a new drive
might be indicated. BTW, CD-RW drives are very cheap and
I've seen DVD+RW drive advertised under $125.

Thanks both - I took the cheap option
and "repaired" the S/W. It works now!
