I'm running XP on my Dell Dimension 2400 with Office 2003. Over night my
CD-RW in the D drive has become unavailable.
I've made no changes to the hardware or software.
I've tried a System Restore twice. I've tried to re-install the driver and
run the Hardware Wizard. The Hardware wizard gives me this error message
"Windows successfully loaded the device driver for this hardware but cannot
find the hardware device. (Code 41).
I've also run my virus scan, spyware and disk clean up trying clean up any
malicious files. I share this computer with my daughter as two users. Her
identity is a "Limited" user. She did have 6 virus files. I cleaned that up.
The D drive is still not functional.

HI

Well I am not so experienced on these type of situations, but I did
experience this when I installed a new CD-RW on my computer. It simply gave
me the message that CD Drive not found.

All I did was that made a few changes in the hardware of my computer. I
changed the bumper of my CD RW to either of slave or primary and kept
checking until it worked. And to my surprise it did.

The thing that got me confused was that you said you didnt make any change
in the hardware or sofware. Then it could be that the drive is not compatible
with this version of XP.

Try your luck. You may be solve it yourself

Thank you Nabeel:
But this is the original config. I haven't made any changes or additions to
the system.
I have seen some other posts like mine that recommend modifying the regedit
files. I really don't want to mess with those files.
I've tried to do this on another computer some time ago and really messed up
my computer.
Does anyone have another suggestion.
Thanks,
Mags45

Hi,

Try this. It involves editing the registry.
The CD global key needs deleting and re-entering.

Go to Start -- Run---then type "regedit" without the quotes. Navigate to
the following key and follow the instructions below.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class{4D36E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

DELETE Upper and Lower filters

Go into Device Manager and delete there if still shown

Re-boot Computer
