Hi,
I am trying to add a CD/RW Drive to my computer. I already have a CD ROM drive. When I install XP won't recognize both drives. But it will recognize them if they are intalled by themselves. But when you hook up both xp only sees one. Can someone help me.
Thanks in advance
Tony

At a guess, you haven't set the drive jumpers correctly. If they are on the
same IDE controller (ribbon cable), one should be master, the other slave.
(Some systems prefer that both be jumpered to Cable Select, though.)

Good luck.

Neither.

The configuration is set by jumpers on the back of the drive.

Some manufacturers show the jumper settings on a label on the top of the
drive. (Unfortunately, you may have to remove the drive from the PC to read
the label.) If your drives are from retail kits, the instructions should
have included the jumpers. Failing that, the manufacturer's web site ought
to provide the information.

Thanks Bob !

But after I asked the question I remembered about the jumpers and fixed that and the drives are up and running !!!!!!!!!!!

But now I have a new problem! I just installed a new hard drive on this computer (Its from another computer and it was already a slave on that one. It is a QUANTUM-Bigfoot TX4.0AT on a system running windows 98SE all I used it for was storing music etc.) The current drive on this system is a WDC AC26400R running XP pro. It shows the Quantum in device mgr as installed and working properly but I cannot access it in My Computer. Does anyone or you Bob know how to set the jumpers on the WDC as master and the Quantum as Slave?

Thanks in advance
Tony
