After update to XP pro my DVD and CD recorders stop
working, I had to install my old DVD player, I have
change the cable, change master and slave setting on the
recorders, change the IDE from 1 to 2 (both hard drives
worked in 2)uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers,
uninstalled WINXP and wiped the hard drive and the
reinstalled and the same problem pops up.

Three questions for you:
1. Are your devices Legacy or P&P (plug n play)
2. Have you checked your Device Manager to make sure
there are no I/O address, IRQ conflicts, etc.
3. Have you checked the HCL (hardware compatible list)
to make sure it is compatible with XP
