Hi all:
I hope someone can help me out. My computer locked up
tonight and I had to manually shut it down. Now my Cd-rom
drive and my Cd-rom writer drive is now shown as being
recognized on my computer.

I have tried a recovery disk...and even did a system
restore to yesterdays date...but with no success.

When I turn my computer on, the lights on these 2 cd rom
drives blink...but it's like they don't exist.

I suspect that I need to reinstall the drivers for them,
but my computer didn't come with the drivers needed for
them.

Any suggestions...Thanks

a) there should be drivers on the disks that came with the CD and CD-R
drives. If you didn't get any disks, go back to the store where you bought
them, and ask for the disks. (I hope you still have your proof of purchase.)

b) go to the websites of the manufacturers of the drives, look for drivers
there, and download them. They usually also have installation instructions
for you to download.

Hi, Eric, i was wondering when you would stick your oar in.

Yes, I have W2K -- not that I'm proud of the fact.

I don't know what you mean by "recognise". W2K "recognises" all kinds of
devices -- that is, they show up in the Hardware Manager. But that doesn't
mean those devices will work as advertised. If the device isn't working,
there is something wrong with the drivers. W2K's built-in drivers should
work, but if they don't, you have to find them elsewhere. If you know a
better solution, post it.

So, what's your advice?

perhaps go back into the pc bios and ensure that they are
recognised there ?

Are you not able to use them ? if you are trying to use with
adaptec writing software there is an issue with that, go to
the adpatec site and download the fix (maybe you have
donmethis before but the "lockup" corrupted something

Go into the device manager and "remove" the drives, then re
boot and see if the pc picks them up again

good luck
