first off i would like to express gratitude for this groups existance. i
see a lot of pc related problems get resolved here so i feel asure i am in
the right group!

ok on to my problem. to put it in a nutshell, all appears to be good with
my cd writer. it shows up in the boot screen, shows up in windows explorer
without any strange characters and nero info detects it and gets all the
correct info. what is killing me is that when i put a blank disc in the cd
rom i get no prompt whatsoever! nor nero or roxio will see a blank disc
when i put a blank disc in the drive. i have enabled & disabled "record on
this drive" with no success! what could be causing this? i am at my wits
ends with this less than a 2 years old cdrom. can anyone shed some light on
this please?

Why run the 3rd party cdwrite software, they dont help in xp...Also,try moving
youre cdrw to another IDE connection, make sure the jumper pins are either
slave or master.Install the intel chipset utility for youre board, get from
intel.
Also,go to:http://www.liteonit.com Get the cdrw firmware for youre model.

Off base, Andrew. There are very good reasons indeed to use third-party
burning software in XP starting with the fact that XP's native burning
capabilities are severely limited. Fiddling with jumpers and IDE
connections will not help, either.

(snippage)

To the OP: Swap out the drive for a known-working one. If all works now,
discard the original drive as it is broken. It doesn't matter that the
drive is only 2 years old. Drives fail.
