Cd rom not reading disk

i have just tryed to install a khypermedia drive into my
other drive bay
the drive wasent working properly at all when you put a
cd in the drive it whould just blink a few times and
thats it no spinnin and when you whent to click on the
drive d it said please insert disk?

checked the jumpers and relized that cd rom number 1 was
on cable select and not master so a changed it

rebooted and no cd's came up on the screen at all so i
shut down

oops loose cable- after makeing shure all cables where
snug in ther place i started up again.

now both the drives do the same thing just blink and not
read any cd at all

i have tryed them in 2 different computers and i still
get the same effect.. 1 is winxp home 2 is winxp pro

this is a weard problem that i cant figure out can somone
please help me> i cant afford 2 drives

When you say "other drive bay" it looks like you already
have another cd drive...is that correct? If so, have you
checked to make sure one is pinned as master and the other
as slave... Also, do the drives show up when you
boot..can you see them in the bios?
