CD ROM failure / doesn't read / Error 19

Hello to all

Here is a tricky one: I recently purchased a new CD-R
drive and replaced the old CD-ROM. It worked all fine for
a few weeks and now, the CD-R drive doesn't show up
anymore with the other drives (HDD, Floppy). In "device
manager" it got a yellow dot / exclamation mark and says
problem 19 / possibly corrupt registry.

I tested 2 other drives that do work well - same problem.
I exchanged IDE cables - same problem. I switched IDE1 /
IDE2 around and connected the HDD to the other IDE - same
problem, HDD runs fine. So I ruled out the possibility for
a corrupt drive or cable.

Could it be the controller? Unlikely, the CD-R boots from
a bootable CD-ROM without problems...

So how do I fix Win2000 here? I tried to delete the reg
keys that cover the IDE drives. No success (not allowed).

HELP! Please! Any help is appreciated. Thank you so much.

Best regards
Juerg
