>Check the cable position of the drive, you'll need to

take the side cover off,may need to remove the drive if
its the only drive in the bay it should have the IDE
cable with the black end pluged into it,and the jumper
setting(thats the set of prongs that look like
this ::::: there should be a jumper on one set
of: should be set as master,or cable select in this
position,if its set at slave it may not recognize it.Also
if its connected to the gray end and set as master, pluged
into the IDE with the gray end bios will see it but
windows will have trouble communicating with
it.Black=master,slave=gray(or cable select for 2
drives, but both must be set at this settings)(1 cant be
master and other cable select, both must be cable
select,or master black,slave gray)If it's set like this
it may be hit or miss. When people put in their own drive
(or Best Buy teens LOL)and they bring them to me because
it shows them and sometime works sometimes not,I charge
them $50 just like Best Buy.For 5 minutes of work.I get
at least 10 of these a week,One week when Best Buy had a
special on DVD burners,I had 37 of them in 5 days darn
near 2 grand for changing the jumper that should've been
changed at the shop.Nothing like having their first cd
rom as master, and the second one cable select,it shows it
and sometimes it works but ol Frank needs the money
anyway.Wish they would have another sale on them could
use the extra cash.

Thats hilarious but im not stupid when it comes to
computers ( i mean this in a nice way) this drive is in a
laptop. its the original drive. i know al about jumper
settings and stuff. its software because it worked fine
previously but once i popped in a dvd, my decoder said it
cant read the format then the drive played hide and seek.
afterwords it showed up a couple of times as a cd-rom
drive not a dvd drive. now hardware manager doesnt even
see it.
