CD Rom/DVD stopped working

I just read Jimmers problem posted today, and it sounds like I have almost the same situation. The only difference is I did not upgrade to XP. This computer has been running great for a couple years. Last week the CD/DVD drives quit. XP says they are working fine when I do a system check. When I insert a disk, nothing happens. When I boot up the CPU, bios is not recognising the CD drives. Could my Bios be going bad, or my motherboard, or maybe a virus? I have Norton 2004, and it says I am clean. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.
