cd rom drive

im not too technical about computers and dont know how to fix this at all but
my computer has stopped reading the cds that i put in. it trys to spin it 3
times and then stops and doesnt recognize that there is a cd in. does anyone
know how to go about fixing this?

It sounds like the drive has died. There are various ways to
troubleshoot this, but probably since you are "not to technical about
computers" you should take it to a reputable local computer professional
and have them fix it. If you want to try it yourself, swap the drive out
for a known-working one. If the test drive works, replace the original
drive.

Try The Windows XP TweakUI powertoy to disable the autoplay feature on the
CD/DVD drive(s), may be part of the problem..

It worked for me, your results may very..

Malke is usually 100% on the money, so if the above dosen't work, get a new
drive, your call..

Thanks for the nice words, Jaymon. Actually, I consider *you* the cd/dvd
guru! That's a nice trick with TweakUI. It does sound to me like the
OP's drive has died but certainly the TweakUI trick would be the first
thing for her to try.
