CD-ROM / CD-RW error messages "UNSAFE REMOVAL"

Hello

I am having this problem in Win2k Pro where I will be
working on something, browsing internet, doing anything
and I will receive an error message. Nothing seems to be
aiding to the problem but I get error messsages of:

"Unsafe Removal of Device CD-ROM" and then another at the
same time for my CD-RW. After I hit close I cannot use my
CDROMor CDRW drives until I turn off my computer and let
it sit for several minutes. After I turn it back on there
still is no garentuee that my CDROM or CDRW will show up
under My Computer or be able to use it.

Someone please help......
