cd rom & rw drives not working after xp pro upgrade

can anyone assist me in finding the appropriate driver
&/or firmware upgrades to get my drives working again?
i've tried to reinstall xp's drivers & i've upgraded my
chipset drivers, but since i've upgraded from 98se i've
not been able to use my cd drives. they show as working
properly & enabled but when i explore a cd it shows data
& when i click on it xp tells me the cd is not in the
drive. please help....thanks
