cd-rom and cd writer function occasionally, running xp

power seems to be to the cd rom but rarely does the cd writer operate, i am
running xp and would like to run a cd-fix sometime soon but kinda hard to do
without a cdrome or writer

Troubleshoot by:

1. Swap the cd-rw drive out for a known-working one. If the substitute
drive works, throw the original one out.

2. If the substitute drive doesn't work, swap out the power supply for a
known-working one. If that solves the issue, throw the original psu
out.
