Windows XP Pro SP2 with antivirus, antispyware, and all updates installed.
Compal DVD CD-R/RW installed and recognized by Windows. I have used
Regseeker and Regscrubxp for two years without problems. I have not used XP
to burn cds for several months as I have been using Nero. Nero works fine.
I noticed that the cd drive was not showing up in the send to menu when right
clicking on a file. The burn options inside folders are not there. The
recorder tab on the cd properties is not there. I checked Google and did the
following: Checked the registry and found the drive type was set correctly
for a burner. Device manager shows the drive is a DVD CD-R/Rw that is
working correctly. IMAPI services was set to manual, I changed it to
automatic. Uninstalled the drive in device manager. At this stage, it just
booted normally and the cd drive was there. Windows did not go through the
pnp routine. Re-installed the original drivers. I rebooted after each of
the above steps. I have no idea when the function disappeared so I cannot
guess what software or changes were made that may have caused my problem. I
don't doubt that the problem is self-inflicted. I posted this also in
Windows XP Newsgroup, Configuration and Management as I was not sure if these
are seperate groups. I look forward to any input.

I was wondering if doing a repair from the xp installation cd would be an
option, as there doesn't seem to be any apparent fixes.
