Is it possible to edit text in a file that has been burned
to a CD-R/W?
Witha floppy, you edit, save, and it overwrites the file
with the changes but using XP's burner software this
results in a "READ ONLY" flag and won't allow changes to
the file. (Yes, I'm using R/W's)

No, it is not possible with the native XP CD writer. You will need 3rd party
packet writing software to do that. Nero's InCD is an example of that type
software.

Hi Ron,

The CD-RW would have to been formatted by using InCD and written to after it
was formatted to be able to do what you want.

Read http://aumha.org/win5/a/xpcd.htm - the inbuilt burning is not a
CD-RW method as usually understood, and you can only erase a disk as a
whole - not update individual files. You need one of the 'packet
writing' UDF packages

Using XP's built-in burner, only a TOTAL erase of a RW disk is possible.
You want packet writing capability. Check here for the overview...

http://www.aumha.org/a/xpcd.htm

Topics covered include:

1. Fundamentals
a. The ISO File System
b. The UDF File System
2. The Inbuilt System in Windows XP
3. Reading UDF Format Disks in Windows XP
4. Third Party Software, & Upgrading to Windows XP
5. Writing & Using UDF Format Disks in Windows XP
6. Settings for the Inbuilt Software
7. Problems
a. There is no recording page...
b. My CD drives have vanished...
8. More Information

Additionally, you can find a small list of MS Knowledge Base articles on
troubleshooting CD problems by clicking "CD & DVD Drives" here:
